What roof cleaning looks like with us
Gloeocapsa magma algae feeds on the limestone filler in asphalt shingles, leaving the dark streaks common on Nashville-area roofs. Pressure blasting those streaks strips granules and shortens roof life, so we use the low-pressure soft wash method recommended by shingle manufacturers.
The solution is applied from ladders or a roof-safe approach, allowed to dwell, then rinsed and left to weather clean. Landscaping is pre-soaked and rinsed, and gutters are flushed afterward so nothing settles in the troughs.

Does roof cleaning damage shingles?
Soft washing does not. It uses no meaningful pressure, so granules stay in place. High-pressure roof washing does cause damage, which is why we never use it on shingles.
How often should a roof be cleaned in Tennessee?
Most roofs in this humidity need attention every three to five years, sooner when heavy tree cover keeps the surface shaded and damp.
Can roof algae actually shorten roof life?
Yes. Algae and moss hold moisture against the shingle surface and break down the filler material, which accelerates granule loss and aging.
